On a beautiful sunny Wednesday afternoon we celebrated the 238th anniversary of American independence. Just over 1.000 of our closest friends and contacts honored us with their presence. Guests included politicians, civil servants, diplomats, business people, scholars, NGO representatives, and representatives from the world of culture.

In his remarks Ambassador Gifford noted the strong long-lasting ties our two countries share. He emphasized the importance of looking ahead. Quoting President Kennedy, he noted that those who only look to the past are sure to miss the future. In that vein, he promised the guests to work tirelessly to forge a relationship for the future.
