My goals as Ambassador
Security, trade, and relationships: These are the three pillars and goals that inform my work and that of my colleagues here at the U.S. Embassy in Denmark. In everything we do, we protect the American people and promote their interests and values. We work as a team, all pulling in the same direction. Towards safer and more secure societies for both Americans and Danes. Towards more and freer trade between our countries. And towards deeper and fuller relationships between our peoples.
Diplomacy is about reaching agreement, while ensuring that the interests of your country and of your people are protected. Diplomacy is also about reaching out to promote and strengthen shared values and interests. It is hard to imagine a better place to do that than in Denmark. The Kingdom of Denmark is the only Nordic nation that is a member of both the EU and NATO. It is one of the United States’ closest partners and Allies. Our two countries enjoy vast economic ties, historic military cooperation, and deep cultural and family connections. This makes us perfect partners in our common pursuit of happiness, prosperity, and security, in our countries and beyond.
My team and I focus on all parts of the Realm. We often travel to the Faroe Islands and Greenland. For the first time in over half a century, we have an American diplomat devoting all his time to Greenland and spending half his time there.
We also focus on all aspects of Danish society in order to fulfil our mission. We appreciate the importance of good relationships. Be it in education, culture, commerce, defense, law enforcement, politics, or simply between individuals, we know that it is that mesh of relationships that makes the U.S.-Danish relationship what it is.
I hope you – the reader – will take part in this endeavor. When we work together based on shared values and shared interests, paving the way for our brightest and most innovative people and companies, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
